In 2017, Mohamed Dhaouafi set up a 3D printer in a corner of the family house in Sousse and started building a bionic hand. He had an engineering degree, no medtech background, and no investors. What he had was a stubborn belief: a child in Sousse deserves the same technology as a child in Munich.

Family savings paid for the first prototypes. Soon, a team of engineers, prosthetists, and regulatory experts joined the mission. Together they did what most people said a Tunisian startup couldn't: certify a bionic hand, earn the trust of public hospitals and the military, and build every key component in-house.

Along the way, Mohamed was recognized by Forbes Middle East 30 Under 30, MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35, TIME Next Generation Leaders, and the Obama Foundation. The team never slowed down to celebrate.
